Ok, the idea of this Earth Changes section of the forum is to cut out
the hype and give you a scare-free hard-nosed take on things.
But the idea of this new scare-umentary from ABC is to dream up every
possible way that humans could go extinct --and scare you sh*tless.
All part of the relentless PsyOp-ing of the masses. Groan.
The promo video interview with Hawking is hilarious. Remember recently
he said we should prepare big spaceships in case we need to leave Earth.

Briefly put, the Fund is a cross between a lottery and a raffle. "Donations" or purchase of special neato tickets will raise money to build immense spaceships, thereby saving humans from extinction in the event of thermonuclear destruction, asteroids, et al. The tickets pulled from the magic hat years later will reveal who gets to go for a trip into space.
Now I reveal the lengths to which I've gone in considering the details of the Fund.
There's more!
Corporations and entrepreneurs will receive discounts for large donations, at the same time allowing their products a spot on the ship.... Good for business and the economy!
Save the Humans Fund!!

As to total extinction, I don't put my money on runaway disease... it is too unlikely
that an event such as a runaway Ebola or airborne trigger of AIDS-like breakdown
would cross species. It would just cull most humans and the remaining humans in
various exterme climate enclaves would survive.
My money is on a climate related event, COLD with excessive cloud cover for
a long time, because such an event would globally affect indiginous humans' ability to survive.
Where the methods of survival are most traditional, there is the least ability to adapt quickly.
Where the methods of survival are complicated, our lack of inherent preparation over time
leads to total breakdown of modern society, a condition in which we'll basically by
sheer numbers frig up the chances of the humans in our midst that have viable
alternatives. There would be an underground Morlock cannibal society for a time,
but we lack the practice to make such things work.
We'd eat the Amish first because they have that tasty home cooked
flavor we love. But it's moot, even the Amish are riding on chlorophyll survival.
Third most likely slate wiper is 06-Nov-2007: Asteroid Impact
Second most likely slate wiper is a supervolcanic event like HL BFN 01-Jan-2007: Yellowstone.
This is my New Years' post from last year. But note the latest (kind of surprising)

And the most likely slate wiper is... sorry folks, no disclosure. Because it's
something anyone can do with common kitchen utensils, a pound of lentils, bottle
of ketchup (catsup will not work)... and one other unspecified ingredient.
The only thing that can *really* save us is going into HL BFN 19-Nov-2006 Space.
And when we do, avoid exporting lentils OR ketchup.
