Hey Fintan can you give us any hints on how to post Vimeo videos like this for instance -

<iframe></iframe>
<p>ULTIMATE HAGGIS from Bella Caledonia on Vimeo.</p>

and also how do you scale down images like this so that they don't "wide-out" the page on a thread -

Cheers! Hope to be posting loads of vimeo vids and awesome images soon Wink

http://postimage.org/

Choose size = 800
Copy the Direct Link ending in jpg

Vimeo have screwed the ability to easily embed their content.
F*k 'em.

How do I embed a video on another site?

Go to the video page and click the Share button that appears
when you hover your mouse over the video player.

If you are using Chrome and your name is Fintan Dunne
- when you click, absolutely damn all will happen.

- Close Vimeo tab.
- Write horrible things about Vimeo Techs.
- Go to Youtube.

Was this helpful? Yes / No

Yes. It helped me realize that if Vimeo cant even
leave the frikkin old embed system in place, then
they deserve to become redundant.

Actually I just managed it using the code from half way down this page
http://www.miracletutorials.com/howto-embed-vimeo/

talking about ... "If you are posting on a old WordPress blog, you may need to wrap the embedding code between <code></code> tags, like below:" and substituting the 9-digit number for the video (in this case https://vimeo.com/159352255 - i.e. 159352255) in the "https://player.vimeo.com/video/xxxxxxxxxx" part and then stripping out everything else (<object><param><param><param></object><p> etc.) outwith the embed parts with the slashes and arrows.

If you know what I mean, like Wink
and ...

ta-raaa! -

Eck's yer second cousin twice removed!

But yeah, you suck Vimeo scumbags - eat shit! Laughing

As of now 12th August, it looks like YouTube have stopped delivering
videos using the < embed feature
used in most PhpBB forums.

That's why the videos no longer display in the forum. Crying or Very sad

We gotta alter the forum code to allow what's called an <iframe
that's b'cos YTube want to force the world to embed via <iframe

(<iframe is/was rarely used on forums -it made hacks easier.
See all the ways YouTube have dropped embed support here)

Don't panic yet. We can also reverse engineer new code to handle
the way your forum posts have already embedded YouTube videos. Exclamation

MEANWHILE

HOW TO FIND THE ID OF THE VIDEO ON THE FORUM

1. VIEW PAGE SOURCE CODE FOR ANY FORUM PAGE
(Right Click on the page and View Source)

2. Search the code for /v/
( Type Ctrl-F and enter /v/ )

Use Ctrl-G to look for source
code like this seen below:

It's the highlighted portion of the code above that is the video ID.
Copy that code, Display any YouTube video and replace it's ID with yours.

Update ASAP on this.- Fintan

Ok, having slept on it, I got a game plan
and a timeline to fix the YouTube embeds.
Wink

STEP 1

Tweak the ViewTopic.Php code which constructs forum pages
so that it will successfully display <iframe> youtube code.
AND
Tweak the Posting.Php code to create all post videos as < iframe
instead of the current practice of < embed

That would let us move on with all new videos posted in < iframes
and those new videos viewable within the forum.

STEP 2

Scan the posts database and locate all < embed code blocks.

Locate Video IDs by searching the post text for /v/
and replace the ALL old < embed code with new
< iframe code which uses the same 11dight youtube
video ID which follows every /v/

That's a complex "string substitution" programming job, and
would need to be tested and debugged on a test subset of posts.

That way all old videos posted since the forum began would have
the new <iframe code and would be be viewable in the forum.

STEP 3
There IS no Step 3.
Kiss my ass YouTube. Laughing

And we're DONE!

Although there are more tweaks we need
done to get things working best. more soon...

FORUM DOWNTIME SCHEDULED FOR
WED 17th AUG 0:00AM EST - 8AM EST

TO RUN YOUTUBE VIDEO EMBED FIX

This will retrospectively scan all forum posts (since we began!)
and where it finds old Youtube <embed code - it will convert
this into <iframe version.

The forum's YouTube auto-embed feature
will also be changed to embed new videos with <iframe

copy the link and paste it into the forum post:

After clicking the YouTube button you will see BBCodes
[ youtube ] [ /youtube ] wrapped around the YouTube link:

Click Preview! Check it displays ok - then post it!

By default the width and height of the video are set to 640 x 360

By the way:

- The image align left and right buttons also now work

- The url address button hyperlinks your text to a URL.
    1. Highlight a piece of text in your post
    2. Click the Globe icon
    3. Paste the web address into the code after the = sign

- The [list] button will create an indented list.
