Quote:

I had PM communication on health issues with Rick a few months ago.
He didn't reveal the seriousness of his situation. Played his cards close.

Other folks are saying it better than I can at the moment.
So I have gathered their comments below. Being personally
rather a bit dumbstruck, right now I have to say.

His last posts were in October.
Some 3,000 posts in all -over ten years.
On every level, including the Next Level, Rump was one of
the rocks who've kept this Forum a beacon of truth burning.

Hat's off To You Rick. Wink

Sometimes, when you write about peopleís music for newspapers,
and you have some kind words to say about it, they will actually thank you.

For some reason, Iíve always kept such notes and letters. I just keep Ďem
in a folder with some of my clips with my files. This one goes back more
than 20 years, probably before we had e-mail and people would still
actually write to you.

Itís all here Ö the classy gentleman and the graciousness,
the self-deprecation and the great wit, and the love for music.
He was already on to the next few projects.

So glad Iíve kept this one.

I posted two of Rickís songs on my timeline earlier today.
If you havenít given them a listen, please do. Youíll be glad you did.

He was among the best Iíve ever written about.

His old Dakota crew sure did justice to
Rick's complex and subtle melody and lyric:

Didn't know Rick. But he seemed like a knowledgeable, humourous and talented guy.

RIP brother!

I think we should have a "Re Member Rump" thread.

I cannot believe the news, shocked and numb here.

I found this: Rick Manwiller

And this, a list of comedy sketches on his website:

Rick was authentic. Kept it real just like David.
Y'all made some sweet music. Glorious 2010.

"And I donít know no friends
Like the old friends
I never seem to laugh now
Like I did with them

But deep inside me
A piece of history
Yeah, I hear their voices even though theyíre gone
And it keeps me turning home
"

"Turning Home"

Usually take one last pass through town
Stop the car and touch the ground
Watch those streetlights swayiní in the breeze
Decorated store fronts
Rusty old gas pumps
Try to fill my mind up
With somethiní before I go
Picture postcard memories
You know they always make for good company

I donít know no town
Like the old town
Even when the miles are many
I feel like Iím still around
Deep inside me
Like rings through an oak tree
Yeah, there something Ďbout a Sunday when Iím gone
That keeps me turning home

Iím standiní here beneath these billboard lights
Takes me back to those autumn nights
Hometown bleachers packed real tight
As we marched down the field
My feet would swing from a dropped tailgate
Out on Airport Road real late
No one could walk a line too straight
We usually made it home alright
And glory days I cant re-live
Stories Iíll never forget

And I donít know no friends
Like the old friends
I never seem to laugh now
Like I did with them
But deep inside me
A piece of history
Yeah, I hear their voices even though theyíre gone
And it keeps me turning home

I can't believe it, very sad to hear this... terrible news.... at.. a.. loss..

I didn't know him personally, but his wit and personality shone bright on this forum.
For the longest time he seemed to hold this place together....
You made this forum extra special...
We'll remember you Rump !!

I am truly sorry and ashamed that it takes an event like this to bring me back to the forum after 10 months of lurking.

When I joined the BFN forum back in 2006, Rick sent me a PM to welcome me personally.
I'll let our correspondence speak for itself and show you what a gem of a human being he truly was.
I can't count the number of times he made my wife and I laugh heartily when reading his posts, especially when he would bitch-slap trolls who were trying to bring BFN down.

Thank you Rick for all you gave us.
I think the best way to pay tribute to you is to get my butt back on the threads and kick some ass on your behalf...

Welcome to the forum. I always welcome any Scandanavian members, because a few years ago I spent a great month playing music on a Finnish Silja Cruise liner, The Europa. A non-stop party, back and forth between Helsinki and Stockholm.

And I fell in love with a Finnish dancer who worked the revue. What great legs. : )

Hi Rumpleskin,

Thanks for the welcome and sorry I haven't replied since.
The Europa is now the Silja Symphony but recent EU restrictions
have limited booze cruise licentiousness.
The Eckero line does a good hooley over to Tallinn for the day,
I call it the party boat, lots of Finns ballroom dancing etc.

Seeya,

Neil O'Toole.

What to say, what to say? I will miss you and had many public debates and PM's with you with nothing but fond memories. Godspeed my friend and see you on the flip side ... Wink

Love and healing to all your friends and family and you surely will be missed here on the forum.

Love and wishing you a peaceful journey to the next, next level...

This was a bummer to hear about. Sorry to see you go, Rick. We met up some years back when his touring bands came thru for a gig... he definitely was a hard-working guy. I saw it.

Life is too short.

(Thanks Kathy for letting me know. Thanks Fintan for fixing my login!!)

My condolences to Rick's family and all here, cos everyone was his friend here.

Sad
