Earlier this week Piers Corbyn said that the UK and Europe is going to
experience continuing unseasonal cold. That's in the last minute of the
video above. Most of this video charts his continuing awesome weather
predictive prowess. I've been following him since mid-last year and
reckon he is now the best in the world.
Close behind him are Accuweather's Joe Bastardi
and Ken Ring, who has guested here on BFN.
Here's the ABC Nightline feature on Piers Corbyn from last year:

Global Warming Is Really Biting Hard!
At least 50 ships, with over two thousand passengers have
been frozen immobile in the Baltic Sea, as what is described as
an "unusually harsh winter" caught Swedish authorities
unprepared.
| Quote: | 50 ships stuck in Baltic thick ice
STOCKHOLM, March 5 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish Maritime Administration said on Thursday that about 50 vessels are stuck in the thick ice in the Baltic sea off Sweden's east coast.
Among the vessels, there are six large passenger ferries which are in total carrying more than 2,000 passengers, the administration said in a statement.
Two of the ferries, including the large Isabella passenger ferry carrying 1,322 passengers and crew, have been freed.
Four other vessels, including the Amorella, another passenger ferry with 753 passengers and 190 crew members aboard, are still stuck.
Sweden has suffered an unusually harsh winter this year, with temperatures across the country almost continuously lying well below freezing since December.

frozen in Baltic Sea ice
Friday March 05 2010
MORE THAN 1,100 people were trapped yesterday when two passenger ferries and two cargo ships got stuck in ice in the Baltic Sea off Sweden's east coast. Rescuers were on stand-by to evacuate them if necessary.
The Swedish Maritime Administration said ice breakers in the area were trying to free the vessels, but gale-force winds were hampering the effort.
“As soon as they break the ice it freezes over again,” sea rescue spokesman Peter Lindquist said.
He said no-one had been injured and there were no immediate plans to bring people off the ships, but helicopters and military hovercraft were on stand-by in case evacuations were needed.
The agency said the ships were the Amorella, a passenger ferry with 943 people on board, the smaller Via Mare ferry carrying 66 people, the roll-on, rolloff ferry Sea Wind with 32 people, and the Regal Star, a cargo ship with 56 people on board.
Two other ferries which got stuck in the ice were able to break free earlier yesterday. One of those ships, the Finnfellow, collided with the Amorella.

I did that run in February of '94, playing on the Silja Line, between Helsinki and Stockholm. Back then, there would be sections of the Baltic that were iced over, but then you'd feel the ship break free and it was clear water for many miles. When you're crunching ice, it's more like being on a train - no rocking, and a steady chug-chug-chug as it breaks through. I can only imagine how thick that ice must be now.
My ship was the Europa, one of the several cruise liners that assisted picking up survivors a few years later when that Estonian liner sank on the way to Stockholm.
The Europa held 2,000 passengers itself, and also had a massive car deck that could hold about 18 tractor trailers (drivers would defer to the ferry, rather than drive all the way around the huge bay.
As cold as it was that winter up there, I can't imagine how cold it must be now. _________________ I stand for truth and justice. I used to add "American Way" to that, before I realized that latter has nothing to do with the previous two. |

Climate Change Funds: The IMF Has Ideas For Combating Climate Change
TOM MALITI | 03/ 8/10 03:43 PM | AP
NAIROBI, Kenya — The head of the International Monetary Fund on Monday proposed a plan for the world's governments to pool together to raise money needed to adapt to climate change, a rare step for an organization that normally does not develop environmental policies.
IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said the Fund is concerned about the huge amount of funding needed and the effect that will have on the global economy. He added that the proposal may help efforts to reach a binding agreement on climate change later this year.
Strauss-Kahn proposed that countries adopt a quota system similar to the one the Fund uses to raise its own money, which could bring in money faster than proposals to increase carbon taxes or other fundraising methods. He only provided a broad outline of the plan, as the organization will release a paper within 10 days with full details. It is unclear how the proposal will be received.
The IMF raises funds from its 185 members mainly through a quota system that is based broadly on each country's economic size. The United States is currently the largest shareholder.
"We all know that (carbon taxes and other fundraising methods) will take time and we don't have this time. So we need something which looks like an interim solution, which will bridge the gap between now and the time when those carbon taxes will be big enough to solve the problem," Strauss-Kahn said. "And that is exactly what the IMF proposal is dealing with."
He said a climate change accord reached last December estimated $100 billion a year will be needed by 2020 to fund programs, including those to help poor nations deal with droughts, flooding and food shortages expected to be caused by climate change.
A Kenyan anti-poverty campaigner said the IMF should not get involved in climate change because in Africa it has promoted policies that saw an increase in the exploitation of fossil fuels, which have contributed to the greenhouse gas emissions blamed for climate change.
"IMF is responsible for the consumption patterns that has generated the current climate crisis that we face. And they have neither the expertise nor the moral authority to discuss the issue of climate change," said Vitalice Meja, the coordinator of Reality of Aid Africa, an anti-poverty advocacy group.
Nations failed to reach a binding deal in Copenhagen in December, but agreed on a voluntary plan to control greenhouse gas emissions which are blamed for the gradual heating of the Earth that scientists predict will worsen weather-related disasters. The accord, however, included collective commitments by rich countries to provide billions of dollars to help poor countries adapt to climate change, a major demand the poor nations had made.
Story continues below
The more than 190 nations will reconvene in Cancun, Mexico, later this year for another attempt to reach a binding agreement to replace the Kyoto Protocol, which sets emissions targets for industrial countries and expires in 2012.
(This version CORRECTS paper to be released within 10 days, sted this week.) _________________ Birth is the first example of " thinking outside the box" |

Gallup has completed another poll of American's attitude
to global warming hysteria.
The results are ominous for climate change advocates:

Piers Corbyn does it again!
At the end of Feb (see end of video above) he predicted that
March would start cold in the UK, and would then warm up.
And he cautioned that the sting in the tail was a return to
a cold snap again at the end of March.
That's how it worked out, and here comes that cold snap:
| Quote: | Warning UK regions:
60% North West England
60% Yorkshire & Humber
60% SW Scotland, Lothian & Borders
60% North East England
Heavy Rain & Heavy Snow 0100 Tue 30 2359 Tue 30
There is a high risk of severe weather affecting parts of
northern England and southern Scotland on Tuesday.
Rain will increasingly turn to snow over high ground, where further
accumulations of over 30cm are possible, with drifting in the strong winds.
Some moderate accumulations of snow at low-level are also likely in
places, at least temporarily.

Pick up a copy of this weekend's Financial Times(although basically a waste of money) and you will be amazed at how these fuckers are beating the dead horse: "Royals against climate change"!
They just will NOT give it up.
Relentless page after page of the same rot. |

I am just reading through the articles on Piers Weatheraction site, and in particular on the met office.
| Quote: | “This is a serious matter, not a game, the Met office
surrender is important because their misleading failed
forecasts have cased unnecessary suffering and loss of
life and would continue to do so if not terminated. The
cold icy winter caused huge economic loss made worse
by the UK and Europe running out of road salt after the
Met Office’s mild winter prognosis – in which some also
died in road accidents as a consequence”, said Piers
Corbyn, |
And incredible arrogance with,
| Quote: | “WeatherAction are the only long-range forecasters
with independent proven skill and we stand ready to fill
the gap in long range forecasts. The Govt, BBC,
Councils and Emergency services need our forecasts but so far Environment Minister Hilary Benn has not
responded to our offer to, eg, produce a summer forecast which can say whether or not the UK will have
another lousy summer with floods.
|

Why they would not want an accurate forecast is any ones guess, although it looks like taking on piers work would be a admittance they were wrong and there is no way they could do that. |

So can we assume from this then the Met can only produce short range forecasts, let's say a five day forecast ?.
What are the models they are currently using which produce such inaccuracy in concern with their long range forecasts ie for this summer ?.
Or is the reason they have fucked up so much is the blind belief that if the AGW crowd are anything to go by,we are going to have one roasting summer after the other ? . |

I searched the Met website to find an answer to your question skinters, here is what I found:
| Quote: |
Our forecast methods
Our methods
We use global forecasting models and statistical methods. Seasonal trends affect large geographic areas, so our forecast for the UK is in the context of Europe as a whole.
"More about how we crunch the numbers and calculate our forecasts" |
If you click the link inside the quotes it goes to an index page - prophetic or what? _________________ IMAGINE |

Somehow (a little bird(brain) told me....) I am sure that they use the CO2 forcings from our friends at Hadley and the CRU, GISS etc. in the "global climate models".

Cheers Kathy,i found that earlier as well.
I was trying to confirm for myself if the Met had a staunch support of AGW and with this could never support or agree to use piers corbyn's work. It would show admittance to solar activity being a strong indicator of climate,of which if i am right in saying the likes of the IPCC have never pointed to it being a factor.
If the Met wants to make better long term weather predictions,it looks like they are going to need Piers model. |

Motorists rescued from snow
as winter storms batter Britain
Published: 5:26AM BST 31 Mar 2010
Around 300 people - including children on a school bus - have been rescued from cars trapped in snow on the Glenshane Pass near Londonderry, as severe winter storms battered parts of Britain.
Police, mountain rescue and coastguards were drafted in for the operation.
Stranded drivers had initially been taken to Dungiven Leisure Centre near Londonderry, but a blackout meant the site had to be switched to the Roe Leisure Centre in nearby Limavady.
Blizzards, gale force winds and torrential rain have hit Scotland and Northern Ireland, knocking down power lines and wreaking transport havoc.
The Met Office has issued extreme weather warnings for the two regions, forecasting more severe blizzards and severe drifting snow up to 50cm (20in) deep in parts.
During the distinctly un-spring-like conditions, temperatures will remain close to zero through the day.
There could also be snow flurries across high areas of England and Wales, experts said.
Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) said between 45,000 and 48,000 customers, mainly in the west and the north, have been cut off overnight after widespread damage to its network.
At one point there were 600 individual faults reported, the firm said, with the biggest disruption was in Omagh, Enniskillen, Dungannon, Londonderry, Coleraine and Ballymena.
Poor visibility and strong winds were preventing workers from climbing poles, it added.
A spokesman for NIE said 450 engineers and workers were out helping restore supplies as soon as possible - and blamed the disruption on "unprecedented" weather.
"We have had unprecedented weather conditions, and are working to get people reconnected as soon as possible," he said.
"Our crews are getting back out in the field again, we have 450 staff in the field."
Colin Brown, of the Roads Service, said they expected the weather to get worse throughout the day.
''We are getting geared up for difficult day of rain turning to snow as we progress through the day and into the afternoon and evening.''
Scotland saw around 22,000 homes suffer power cuts on Tuesday, with people North Ayrshire the worst hit, but most properties were reconnected during the day.
People living in north-east Scotland were suffering some of the country's worst weather today, with gale force northerly blizzards whipping up snow drifts. Big cities Glasgow and Edinburgh will see wetter conditions.
Snow ploughs and gritters were out yesterday across the country after cars and lorries became stranded in snow.
Ten lorries were stranded for several hours on the M90 close to Bridge of Earn in Perthshire, and two trucks also got into difficulty on the M8 near Edinburgh creating large tailbacks.
Two men also had a lucky escape after a 50ft tree fell on a car in Edinburgh city centre. The men were treated for shock but were uninjured, police said.
Among the roads closed today were the A68 at Soutra Hill in Lothian and Borders, and the A96 between Huntly and Colpy in Aberdeenshire.
Train services on the East Coast main line were also suspended north of Berwick after two landslips last night.
Network Rail said it was working to re-open the line today, diverting some services via Newcastle and Carlisle and using replacement buses.
Elsewhere, heavy rain led to the River Esk bursting its banks in Musselburgh.
Ferry firm Stena also said its sailings between Belfast and Stranraer were being delayed or cancelled.
Steve Ellison, a forecaster with MeteoGroup, the weather division of the Press Association, said the wintry weather would start to die away tonight and tomorrow, but it would remain unsettled in many parts.
He said: ''There's been quite a lot of snow falling over Scotland, especially over the higher ground. But places like Edinburgh can also expect a covering.
''It's also going to be very windy again.
''A deep low pressure is moving across the UK at the moment, dragging in a lot of cold air from the north.''
